Who we are

This website is run by Middlesbrough House Clearance. For the purposes of UK data protection law, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, we are the controller of the personal information described here.

If you have any questions about this policy or how we use your information, email hello@middlesbroughhouseclearance.co.uk or call 07795 006 891.

What information we collect

Contact and quote forms

When you send an enquiry or ask for a quote, we collect the details you give us. This usually includes your name, phone number, email address, the property address or postcode, a description of the job and any photos or notes you choose to add.

Review form

If you leave a review, we collect your name (or initials, if you prefer), the area the job was in, your rating and your comments. We may also ask for an email address so we can contact you about your review. Your email address is not published.

Visitor statistics

We keep simple statistics about how the website is used, such as which pages are visited and roughly how often. These are recorded without cookies. To do this, and to protect the site against spam and abuse, our server records information such as your IP address, the page requested, the time of the visit and your browser type.

Cookies

The public pages of this website do not use cookies. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

The private admin area, used only by the business to manage the website, uses one strictly necessary cookie to keep the administrator logged in. It is not used if you are simply visiting the site.

Why we use your information

  • To reply to enquiries and give quotes. Our lawful basis is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, and our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.
  • To carry out a clearance you book. Our lawful basis is performing our contract with you.
  • To publish reviews. Our lawful basis is your consent, which you give when you submit the review. You can ask us to remove it at any time.
  • To keep statistics and protect the website from spam. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used and keeping it secure.
  • To meet legal obligations, such as keeping business and tax records.

We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for marketing unless you have asked us to.

Who we share it with

Messages sent through the website forms are forwarded by email to the business so we can reply. This means your message passes through our website hosting and email providers, who act on our behalf and only process it to provide those services.

We may share information when the law requires it, or with people you ask us to deal with, such as a solicitor, executor or letting agent. We do not otherwise share your details with third parties.

How long we keep it

  • Enquiries and quote requests: up to 24 months from your last contact, unless a job follows.
  • Customer records for jobs we carry out: as long as we need them for the job, and then for as long as we must keep business and tax records.
  • Reviews: while they are published on the site, or until you ask us to remove them.
  • Spam protection logs, including IP addresses: up to 90 days.
  • Visitor statistics: kept only as long as they are useful for understanding how the website is used.

Keeping your information safe

We take reasonable technical and practical steps to protect your information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. Access to the admin area is password protected and limited to the business.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your information;
  • ask us to limit how we use your information;
  • object to us using your information based on our legitimate interests;
  • withdraw your consent at any time where we rely on it, for example for a published review;
  • ask for your information in a portable format, in some cases.

Some rights only apply in certain situations. To use any of them, contact us using the details above. We will normally reply within one month.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator. GOV.UK explains how to make a data protection complaint, including how to contact the ICO.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we change how the website works. The latest version will always be on this page.
