A town built on the ironstone under Eston Hills
Eston was a small farming settlement until 1850, when ironstone was found in the hills above it. Within a few years it had become a mining town, and the mines kept working for about a century until they closed in 1949. Altered versions of the miners' cottages from that time can still be picked out in parts of the town, and the steep green ridge of Eston Hills, with Eston Nab at its edge, still frames the view from almost every street.
Today Eston sits in the TS6 postcode district and is looked after by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council. It is the main centre of Greater Eston, alongside Normanby, Teesville, Grangetown and South Bank. Shopping is focused on Eston Square, a triangle of traditional terraced shops with the 1960s precinct on its third side and the war memorial at its centre, while the High Street runs out from it.
Homes we clear in and around Eston
Older terraces close to the Square
The streets nearest the old centre are mostly long rows of terraced houses with yards at the back. These are usually straightforward to clear, but parking at the front can be tight, so we sometimes load from the back lane where there is one. A full Eston house clearance in a two-up, two-down is often finished within a day.
Whale Hill and the post-war estates
Whale Hill was built between 1966 and 1970 and has a mix of owned and rented homes. Like the estates around Guildford Road and Blantyre Road, it has plenty of semis and terraced houses with front gardens and driveways, which makes loading easier. These homes often come with a garden shed and a garage that have slowly filled over the years; a garage and shed clear-out is a job we are asked for again and again here.
Eston Under Nab
At the foot of the hills, Eston Under Nab has a mix of house types, from modest family homes to larger detached properties. Larger houses can mean bigger lofts, and a careful loft clear-out is often worth doing before a sale, not afterwards, when the buyer's survey is due.
Bereavement and probate in Eston
Many Eston families have deep roots here, and a parent's house may hold several generations of belongings. If you are facing that, our house clearance after a death is planned around you. We start by agreeing what you want to keep, then set aside papers, photographs, jewellery and anything personal so nothing important is lost in the clear-out.
Executors are generally allowed to empty a house without waiting for the grant of probate. Valuables are the exception to think about, because they are estate assets shared out under the will. Your solicitor can help with the detail, and GOV.UK sets out the basics of what probate is and when you need it. We take on probate property clearances for executors and solicitors and can work around key-holders who live far away.
Landlords, tenants and quick turnarounds
A fair share of homes in Greater Eston are rented. When a tenancy ends and things have been left behind, we can empty the property so it is ready for cleaning, repairs and a new tenant. Our rental clear-outs for landlords and agents include furniture, white goods, loose rubbish and anything left in the yard or garden. If you are up against a deadline, let us know and we will try to juggle our diary.
Single items, rubbish and bigger problems
If you just need a wardrobe, a bed or a sofa taken away, our furniture removal service in Eston handles single pieces as well as full rooms. For mixed loads such as garden waste, broken flat-pack, old carpet and bin bags after a clear-out, we offer rubbish collection too.
For one or two items with no rush, it is worth looking at the council's bulky waste collection first. We tend to suit people who have more to move, need help carrying things downstairs, or want it gone on a particular day.
Sometimes a home has got beyond the point where the person living there can cope. Our hoarding support and clearance is unhurried and private. We work with the resident, bringing in family or support workers if they are involved, and only remove what has been agreed.
Shops around the Square and small units nearby occasionally need emptying too, and we handle shop and business clearances for that.
Reuse first, then recycling
We sort items as they come out of the house. Useful furniture and household goods are passed on for reuse when we can, scrap metal, electricals and cardboard go for recycling, and only the leftovers are sent for disposal. We explain more about how we handle waste. The duty of care sits with the householder, so whoever takes your waste away should hold a carrier registration. The Environment Agency keeps a register of waste carriers you can search.
